When Improv Actors & Stand-up Comedians take the stage this weekend at the 7th annual SweetWater 420 Fest, comedy will be featured for the first time in the history of the festival. The Relapse 420 Comedy Tent is an example of a growing trend amongst predominately music-focused festivals across America.
For several years now, Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, TN has featured big-name comedians such as Conan O’Brien, Doug Benson, Margaret Cho and Jimmy Fallon. Bringing a new dynamic to the 4-day festival which has grown to be more of an experience than a concert.
SweetWater 420 Fest, while not quite as large or popular as Bonnaroo, has grown exponentially over the last few years. This year, Jenn Doane Bensch (Happy Ending Productions), had to work with the city & the Candler Park neighborhood association to expand the festival grounds and move-up to a Friday evening start of 4:20pm; instead of the traditional Noon on Saturday. This means more opportunity for all of the festival vendors, as well as more great music, hilarious comedy, and delicious beer for every fest-goer.
The weekend’s line-up (for both comedy & music) is amazing but Friday night is looking to be the hottest. In the comedy tent you can catch us, AUTOMATIC IMPROV (5:40pm)! Afterwards you can laugh at our good friends, Astronaut University @ 6:20pm, then there’s a whole night of stand-up. A couple of my favorites you should catch: Evan Fowler & Matt Pharr.
When you’re not soaking in some sweet comedy, Rusted Root & Galactic will be jamming on the main stage. It’s going to be a killer Friday!
The whole weekend is going to be awesome. Here’s a link to the 420Fest site & the complete festival schedule: http://sweetwater420fest.com/
Whether you make it out to 420 Fest Friday, Saturday or Sunday; make a point to stop by the Relapse 420 Comedy Tent. There’s something for everyone, even improv workshops for the kiddos.
Thank you SweetWater & Relapse Theatre for including Automatic Improv! We’re all so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this new addition to the festival!
